PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Mayor-elect Ed Gainey said Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Gainey made the announcement during a virtual news conference. He said he was exposed to the virus Saturday and requested a rapid test Monday at his doctor's office.
Gainey said he is asymptomatic and does not have a fever.
Gainey was elected mayor in November. He takes office in January, succeeding Bill Peduto, whom he defeated in the May Democratic primary.
Also during Monday's news conference, Gainey announced members of his transition team.
