ALHAMBRA, CA — Several hundred gallons of gasoline spilled into the Alhambra Wash Sunday night, prompting authorities to advise residents of Pasadena, Alhambra and San Marino to stay inside their homes with windows and doors closed, officials said.
Los Angeles County Hazmat and Flood Control crews were on the scene around 8 p.m. Sunday as the gasoline spill moved south toward San Marino.
The evening spill may leave a lingering smell of gasoline, Alhambra police said. The smell was expected to clear sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
A spill was reported in Pasadena around 3:15 p.m. after a vehicle crashed into a gasoline pump at a Union 76 station, releasing an estimated 1,300 gallons of gasoline into a storm drain.
The spill was caused after the emergency shutoff on the pumps malfunctioned, Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian told the City News Service.
No additional details were released about the spill.
