NEW LENOX, IL — A domestic disturbance call Monday morning ended with one person in the home shot and the shooter himself later shot by police, according to New Lenox Police Deputy Chief Micah Nuesse.
New Lenox police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 1900 block of Grand Prairie Drive at approximately 4:12 a.m., according to police. A 52-year-old man was shot by a 21-year-old relative, police said. Another family member tried to intervene and was beaten by the 21-year-old man, police said. The 21-year-old man then fled the home.
Officers from "an assisting police department" soon found the 21-year-old man and tried to arrest him, police said. The 21-year-old man was shot and was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, police said.
The 52-year-old man who was shot at the home was also taken to Silver Cross Hospital, police said. There was no information provided about either of the men's injuries or conditions.
New Lenox Police Department is investigation the domestic disturbance incident, while the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the officer involved shooting, police said.
Police said that this was an isolated incident, and that there is no further threat to the New Lenox community.
