MOKENA, Ill. — A temporary mayor pro-tem was named Monday, Dec. 13, among a flurry of other appointments made by the Village of Mokena Board of Trustees.
Trustee Debbie Engler's appointment as mayor pro-tem was approved by a 4-0 vote, with herself and the trustee she is temporarily replacing — George Metanias — absent.
"Trustee Metanias was and will be [mayor pro-tem] after this is taken care of, but he is going to be tied up for maybe about a month and a half," Mayor Frank Fleischer said. "So, I need to put somebody in that position. Usually, it is the senior trustee, and Debbie Engler is next in line."
Additionally, the Village Board also voted 4-0 to approve the appointment of Mokena resident Mark Long to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Long, who is a retired Willowbrook police officer, fills the role vacated by Chris Surdel.
"This will be the third member on the Fire and Police Commission," Fleischer said. "We need three, and we've been waiting a long time for someone like Mr. Long."
The trustees also voted 4-0 to approve the appointments of: Michael Rolinitis to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals; Darcie Gabrisko to the Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee (SPARC); and former Trustee Jillian Hersted to SPARC.
