JOLIET, IL — The parents of a 2-year-old wounded in a 2018 Joliet shooting have pleaded guilty to lying to a police detective and unlawful firearm possession, the Herald-News reports. Prosecutors said in a Dec. 10 court filing that Vanessa Casillas, the 2-year-old's mother, falsely told a Joliet detective that she discharged a firearm. Prosecutors have also accused father Robert Ortiz of lying to a detective by claiming that Casillas fired the weapon. In June, Leonardo Ornelas pleaded guilty to shooting their son in the leg in April 2018, and was sentenced to six years in prison. See here for the full Herald-News report.
