Portland Public Library's Main Branch Expanding Open Hours In January

Press release from Portland Public Library: December 18, 2021 We are excited to announce Portland Public Library's downtown location will be opening for expanded hours effective Monday, January 10, 2022. New hours downtown will be Monday through Thursday, 10 am-6 pm; Friday and Saturday, 10 am-5 pm. Burbank, Riverton, and Peaks Island Branches will continue their current open hours. "We are grateful to everyone who has been able to utilize Library services with our limited schedule since summer," "Our purpose is always to provide services to as many people as possible for as many hours as possible, as safely as possible." All visitors will still be required to wear face coverings (PPL will provide them if needed). Anyone who is feeling ill is requested to wait to visit the library until they are sure they are not positive for COVID-19. "While we are watching closely all safety guidance by the City, State, and CDC, we need to be able to serve our community," said Campbell. "We have experienced staffing gaps, like so many other employers, and have not been able to be open for more hours until now. We are enthusiastic to be able to provide more access for the community to find the resources they need." The Portland Room will also be open for more hours beginning January 10: Monday 2-6 pm; Tuesday and Wednesday 10 am-2 pm; Thursday 2-6 pm; Friday 1-5 pm. Library staff will be available to assist with checking out materials and to answer questions. Patrons can access the Library collections and public computers. And patrons can opt to check out their books at self-service stations. Library programs remain online for the time being, and patrons can still request materials online for pickup at the Library's four locations. All Portland Public Library locations will be closed for the holidays on Friday and Saturday, December 24 and 25, and December 31 and January 1.
