ENCINITAS, CA — Fans of dining outdoors and ordering alcohol to-go in Encinitas may be in luck: The city is considering making some COVID-era changes to its restaurant laws permanent, the Encinitas Advocate reported. Some of the changes include allowing restaurants to sell alcohol with to-go meals, waiving extra parking requirements for expanding outdoor dining areas, and allowing restaurants to set up tables in public parking spots (and permitting employees to serve alcohol in those areas), the news outlet said. The policies are set to expire in spring 2022. City planners presented the Council with short- and long-term proposals during its Dec. 15 meeting, and Councilors seemed poised to continue allowing at least some of the loosened restrictions, according to the Encinitas Advocate. "In a lot of ways, this is a long-time dream come true," Councilwoman Kellie Shay Hinze told the news outlet. Read more from the Encinitas Advocate.
