Description
Start the New Year with an adventure on the Bluff Spurs Trail. Hike approximately 4 miles along the Bluff Spurs Trail. The hike leads to an amazing overlook where you can get a real sense of the canyon that is our namesake. Your hike leader will be the Government Canyon site Superintendent who is very knowledgeable about our geology, history and much more! Who is Invited: Open to ages 8 and up; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations ; no pets please. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 12:45PM. Meet at the Visitors Center near the rainwater harvesting tower. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitors Center and ready to go no later than 12:45PM. The hike starts promptly at 1:00PM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring one (1) liter of water PER PERSON and a snack if you like. Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants must be able to hike approximately 4 miles with a fair amount of elevation gain over rocky, rugged terrain. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. All Natural Area entry fees apply. This hike is subject to cancellation. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
