The 8th Annual Truth Awards will celebrate and highlight the accomplishments of the Black LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The Truth Awards was created to recognize and highlight the accomplishments of the Black LGBTQ+ community and its allies. In doing so, we increase the awareness of our contributions to Society, Popular Culture and the Arts, and help refocus the lens through which we are seen. The Truth Awards also provides funding for scholarships that supports educational opportunities for youth in the LGBTQ+ community. Better Brothers LA is an organization dedicated to developing the Black LGBTQ+ community. The Diva Foundation is the passion project for Tony Award-nominated, Sheryl Lee Ralph. For eight years, the two organizations have honored LGBTQ+ community members, allies and advocates. Each year, over 300 attendees, are inspired, uplifted and reminded of the Black LGBTQ+ community’s impact on popular culture, politics and the arts. over 42 individuals have been honored including Marsha Warfield, comedian, actress; Derrick Rutledge, celebrity Makeup Artist; Anthony Hemingway, Emmy Award Winning Producer, Director, Writer; Rahsaan Patterson, Writer, Singer, Producer; Angelica Ross, Actress, Advocate, Businesswoman; Ellene Miles, SVP Sony Pictures; and Karamo Brown, Culture Expert, Talk Show Host for their accomplishments and contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. And each year, we identify one individual who has been a beacon of support and comfort to our community through their professional or personal actions and advocacy to receive the the Ally award. The Ally award has previously been awarded to Emmy Award Winning Actress Loretta Devine, actor Rockmond Dunbar and Tony Nominated Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. Highlights from Truth Awards Galas: 2nd Annual Truth Awards Recap3rd Annual Truth Award RecapKTLA Channel 5 Coverage5th Annual Truth Awards Recap6th Annual Truth Awards Recap7th Annual Truth Awards FOX SOUL In March 2014, Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA) was created to provide spaces for members of the Black LGBTQ Community to network, socialize and be BETTER – at Life, Love and Community.  Developing a sense of community has been a challenge for some within our community given the cultural and religious opposition to our orientation and gender identify.  As those challenges have receded in mainstream society, they still present significant difficulties and sometimes constrain a healthy sense of well-being.  Since our inception, BBLA has sponsored numerous cultural, informational, recreational, and social/networking events.  We continue to sponsor and create opportunities that increase community confidence and pride.
