Experience the Dinosaur Tracks at Government Canyon! Experience the dinosaur tracks from above and at ground level while hiking the Joe Johnston Route and Overlook Trail. This hike is approximately 6.25 miles in length with some elevation changes and rocky trails. Who is Invited: Open to all ages; no strollers; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations ; no pets please. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 8:45AM. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitors Center and ready to go no later than 8:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 9:00AM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two (2) liters of water PER PERSON and a snack. Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants must be able to hike approximately 6.25 miles with a some elevation changes over rocky trails. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. All Natural Area entry fees apply. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
