Description
First Responders face challenges and stress due to the nature of their occupations. Readiness & resilience skills increases overall health. 4-Hour Instructor Led Facilitated Workshop First responders work in a world that is filled with hours of calm and moments of chaos. Couple this with everyday factors that touch our lives, and it is possible to lose our sense of purpose and drive. This course will focus on understanding the physiological and psychological effects of stress and job-related trauma on the body and identify tools that can increase long-term protective factors and optimize human performance under stress. In this FIRST H.E.L.P. four-hour workshop co-facilitated by an experienced first responder and a first responder’s family member, participants will engage in meaningful conversations about the stressful and often traumatic life of a first responder. Participants should expect to leave the workshop with a better understanding of how stress and trauma affect first responder performance and be equipped with techniques to build resilience and initiate difficult conversations. Outcomes PERFORMANCE• Describe stress and differentiate between two types. • Recognize the effects of stress on performance. PERSISTENCE• Initiate an #IWillListen / #IWillTalk conversation. • Identify at least five resources for officers in your agency. PREVENTION - A RANGE of Options• Explore resilience and healthy habits. • Employ a RANGE of five resilience skills. It is the mission of First H.E.L.P. to reduce mental health stigma through education, advocate for benefits for those suffering from post-traumatic stress, acknowledge the service and sacrifice and support the families of first responders we lost to suicide, assist first responders in their search for healing, lead policy makers and legislators toward necessary change, and to bring awareness to suicide and mental health issues within public safety. District 7 Fire & Rescue is hosting this training. FirstNET has provided funding for this series of workshops to be provided in San Antonio. Laurel Ridge Treatment Center is providing the training location.
