Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saw. Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and woodscrews, nails, dowel pins, or glue. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, siding and trim, or hardware, using carpenter's hand and power tools. Other Qualifications: Knowledge of and ability to operate carpenter shop tools and equipment. Ability to lay out construction, remodeling and alteration work. Ability to read blueprints. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary. Willingness to keep informed of new materials and methods for the construction of buildings and structures.
