Here are the top 5 stories in Sacramento today: Patches of dense fog covered the Sacramento and San Joaquin region overnight into Sunday with rain expected to drop later this week. Clouds will increase Monday ahead of the first in a series of weather systems. The rain will reach the Sacramento region Tuesday between mid-morning and early afternoon. (FOX40) The Sacramento Police Department is stepping up patrols across midtown and downtown Sacramento, following a deadly shooting late Friday night. Police say the shooting happened just before 11:00 p.m. Friday, near the intersection of 20th Street and K Street in the Lavender Heights area of Sacramento. Those close to the victim's family tell KCRA 3 he was 18 years old. Those who work in the area are still shaken up. Bartender Bobby Perez said Faces nightclub went into lockdown. According to data from Sacramento police, gun-related crimes are increasing across the city. Through November 2021, there have been nearly 700 shooting reports this year. That is up 29% compared to the same time last year. Firearm seizures are up 35%. (KCRA3) Looking for unique events this holiday week? (thereporter.com) An Afghan family in need got two keys to their home in South Sacramento thanks to Habitat for Humanity just in time for the holidays. With four kids under the age of 12, Ahmad Wali Yusufi and his wife came to the U.S. five years ago, just barely escaping the Taliban, after working for the U.S. military in Afghanistan. Sen. Dr. Richard Pan, who was able to get $750,000 from the state to get this project to the finish line says for the Yusufi family, this was the least they could do. "They left everything behind when they came here," Pan said. "We need to do much more but this is certainly a shining example of what we can try to do to help families succeed here in Sacramento..."
