BURBANK, IL — A 15-year-old boy was arrested after an online post threatening to shoot up various area high schools, police said. The boy is a student at Reavis High School in Burbank. Burbank police were notified of the post early Saturday morning, which threatened a possible school shooting at Richards, Oak Lawn Community, Stagg, Tinley Park and Reavis high schools. Burbank, Oak Lawn, Tinley Park and Palos Hills police worked together in the investigation. Police developed information tracing the post came from a residence in Burbank. Officers went to the home and took the 15-year-old boy into custody, police said. The student has been charged and referred to Cook County Juvenile Justice. Div. Chief William Casey, of the Burbank Police Department, said Saturday's threats were not related to the viral TikTok warning of school violence that swept the nation earlier in the week. "This incident shows how important it is for parents to be aware of their children's online activity," Burbank police said in a written statement. "Please talk to your children about the consequences of posting inappropriate and threatening material online."
