Description
Greetings fellow musicians! Thanks for reading my post. Good decision! Intrigued by the title? Well, I should think so! Confused? Yeah, that's understandable too! Allow me to explain. My band the Metroids (working title) is a recently formed group of Greater Boston Area musicians and music producers who have been playing the New England funky improvisational/world music and electronic scene for years now in various projects. We formed this group to play good music that we like, irrespective of genre, and are gearing up to play gigs at breweries, bars, parties, and hopefully small festivals and the like in the coming year. We've been rehearsing since October and have learned 10 or 12 songs by diverse artists like The Menahan Street Band, Brownout, Herbie Hancock, Baby Huey, Fela Kuti, Lee Scratch Perry, Ikebe Shakedown, Rebirth Brass Band, the JB's, Hugh Masakela, and the Wu Tang Clan/El Michels Affair. Other songs and artists we're covering soon include Dr. John, Corey wong, anime themes like Tank! from Cowboy Bebop and Shiki No Uta from Samurai Champloo, and oh so many more. You know, good songs that most other people don't play. We have drums, bass, a three piece horn section with alto and tenor sax and bass trombone, and until recently had a guitar player but it's looking like he won't be able to continue. As such, we R looking for a guitar player or three (keyboard players and percussionists also welcome!) to complete our lineup. If you join us, you'll be coming into a band that's laid back, experienced, rehearsed, and pretty much ready to roll. We are looking for someone with performance experience, a good attitude, and communication skills who can learn the songs ahead of time, rehearse 2-4 times a month and play gigs at least 1-2 times a month. Lead, rhythm, or ideally people who can play both are encouraged to apply. We don't mind having a couple of rotating guitar players, but we'd rather not have like ten of them. Practices are typically on Tuesday or Wednesday in Dorchester at the Record Company or our bass player's house in Norwood. Everyone has flexible schedules and as such we sometimes practice in the morning from 10 or 11 AM to 1 PM; if you can do that too it's a huge plus, but we're willing to consider changing the schedule for the right person. We all have jobs and other sources of income, and while we are going to look for paying gigs, this is not wedding band money we're talking about here. We intend to play wherever people will have us for whatever they're willing to pay. The main point of this is to learn music we enjoy with people we like and perform it out in the world for personal fulfillment. Oh, and one more thing: we are all vaccinated and have our booster shots, and need any other musicians to be so also. Thanks for reading! Challah back :)
