Yes, there is absolutely a place for cover tunes. Who wants to spend good money for an entire evening with a pompous-ass idiot, who fancies himself a great composer. (HINT) If people are praising your music, It is probably because 1: It's someone that doesn’t want to embarrass you. 2: It's someone with some bullshit studio, that wants to take your money. 3: It's someone that doesn't know much about music. That said, there's room for original tunes, too. All great songs started somewhere. Work on your songs at rehearsal then get HONEST evaluations from people that you trust and respect. Next, work a FEW songs into your set list, and see how they do. Just because you see yourself as Lennon & McCartney rolled up into one, that doesn't mean anyone else will. Bands that inflict bad music on good paying customers, don't get asked back for return engagements.
