Description

My family and I have been taking care of this German Shepherd/Husky Mix male dog, whom we lovingly named "Good Boy or GB" since December 8th and he has been listed as being lost since 11/26 on the Greenwood Humane Society's website. I have re-listed him there as lost and put up signs throughout our neighborhood since the day we found him with no calls from an owner. I would love to be able to keep him, but already have 3 kids, 3 dogs (2 elderly that need a LOT of care and 1 still in puppy stage), a cat, and a pretty busy schedule. We just were not planning on having 4 dogs in our home and Good Boy really deserves a yard to play in. He would ideally do best with a tall fence since he can jump our short one like it's nothing, but only does if he thinks we are leaving. What we have learned about Good Boy- he must have been well trained because he is very tame and calm, gets along with male or female animals, fixed or not. He will not engage in any fight with an animal instead he will sit or lie down, if they get crazy he will simply put his paw on their back as if he is saying "calm down." He acts very much like a service dog. When we go on walks everyday he does great on a leash and really doesn't need it at all, but he won't move forward or "go" unless he knows you want him too, so when you take it off he just stops. He will also only walk on your left side, not the right, which is funny and makes me think he was a service dog. Our yard is very small and he absolutely loves to run and play in the field near us instead. Our 3 dogs are very much just inside dogs and I feel like I'm caging him in by having him in a house most of the day, but at night he does want to be inside and has been sleeping with my 12 year old son in his bed. He doesn't move all night and curls up like a little cat, but I'm sure he'd be fine on a dog bed or the floor instead too. He is very quiet and only barks if our dogs do when someone is at the door. Our labradoodle "puppy" (who is actually bigger than Good Boy) is CONSTANTLY trying to mess with him to get him to play and he really is not interested in playing at all, he just calmly goes around the house with him sometimes now, he never engages in play, he's more of a dog that wants a job or task. I believe he would do best in a home as an only pet or with calm ones, but he really doesn't mind any of ours, and someone with a regular schedule because he really wants to know you will be back home soon. So GB is amazing and the perfect Good Boy, but we actually have renamed him to KGB since getting him.. Kinda Good Boy.. because when we left the house the first couple days we had him he was doing absolutely anything to get out of the house to us (we had a window cracked), including ripping down our living room curtain. He has since stopped, I believe he just really thought we weren't coming back and now knows we don't ever leave for long. He also can be known to quietly, slowly sneak up to you when you are eating and try to get a bite, but listens as soon as you tell him to stop. No one can be perfect right? So KGB does have SOME quirks like us all :) He mostly just wants to be with you all day if you are home to know what you are doing, but he will not step foot in the bathroom or get on the couch unless you call him. If anyone would be willing to take him in, I am pretty certain he is not going to be claimed and he would make such a great family companion to anyone looking for a dog. He is smart, sweet, so loving. He seems to have husky in him as he tries to get out, but it is only if we are leaving the house and as soon as you walk up to him he drops down and roles over for you to pet his belly, then calmly comes straight back inside with you. The only way he must have gotten "lost" was if the person just was not home or looking for him, or maybe they didn't have the proper fence or time to keep up with him, which doesn't require much unless you just work a lot of hours. He is medium sized, black and rust with the cutest curly tail. He is not fixed, but like I said he doesn't mess with our female dog at all or our unfixed male dog in anyway. Please don't hesitate to call/email/text to speak more about KGB. I would love to see him go to a loving home for Christmas.
