It also does not shed and is hypoallergenic. For contrast, the golden retriever has long to medium straight hair with two coats: a top coat and an undercoat, which does shed and causes allergens to those who are sensitive. Thus, when you get a poodle mix, you’re getting both furs. DO NOT FALL FOR THE FALSE PROMISE OF ONLY GETTING POODLE FUR GENES. YOU WILL BE GETTING BOTH. ONLY PUREBRED POODLES ARE HYPOALLERGENIC AND DO NOT SHED. Most poodle mixes such as labradoodles, aussiedoodles, huskypoos, will shed and are not hypoallergenic. It is a false claim that has made the mix breeds so popular. However, there is an exception. If you are looking for a hypoallergenic poodle mix, the Maltipoo is hypoallergenic because the Maltese breed also carries one coat and sheds lightly. Thus, the outcome will be the hypoallergenic gene from both Maltese and Poodle breed. But, if you want a top tier dog, the purebred poodle is the only way to go. Remember, the Poodle breed has weeded out any unfavorable characteristics for centuries in order to come up with the fine tuned breed we have today. But like with any dog breed, the poodle also inherits possible genetic disorders such as hip dysplasia, just like a Dalmatian has a high chance of being deaf. So, imagine producing a mix breed with both inherent genetic disorders. The issues at sue rise much higher than just hair type and shedding around the house.
