The Love & Unity Project helps churches and Christian organizations combat personal and systemic bias relating to race, class, and gender. The Love & Unity Project is thrilled to share Real Talk About Race and are excited you’ll be participating. A great deal of care, thought, and intentionality has gone into the development of Real Talk About Race, and we hope it will foster authentic conversations and new understandings. While we know the road to Love & Unity is long and winding, we believe it’s a journey worth exploring. What is The Love & Unity Project: The Love & Unity Project is an organization aimed to create a more unified, just world. Our mission is to combat any bias that places one person or group of people as superior to another, particularly in the areas of race, gender, and class. We create resources, training, and learning opportunities to empower people and communities. What topics will be discussed in Real Talk About Race? This Fatih Based Facilitated Learning Experience course includes 5 sessions. Session 1 - Amy Cooper, George Flyod, and Race in AmericaSession 2 - White Supremacy Hurts White People Too Session 3 - Misconceptions and Deflections Session 4 - Race and Gender Session 5 - Race and the Kingdom of God. What day and time are the sessions? These sessions are lunch and learns i.e., the session are held over lunch on a Thursday from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 3, 202 -Mar. 3, 2022. How is the course structured? Participants will complete one session per week. Each session includes pre-work materials that you will work through individually, a 15–20-minute video lesson, and conversation starters to guide the group’s processing and discussion after the video lesson. What sort of time commitment is involved? While the time needed could vary depending on the individual and the session, a fair time estimate is independent pre-work (30 minutes), video lesson (15-20 minutes), and group conversation (60 minutes) for a total of approximately 2 hours per week. What if I am unable or would prefer not to attend an in-person group conversation? No problem! All participants can join the group portion either in-person or remotely, via Zoom. Additionally, the post-work can also be completed individually if you’d prefer or if you have a schedule conflict. What are your COVID-19 Guidelines? If you are feeling sick, unwell or exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you do not come. If you do have to cancel because you or a member of your family tests positive for COVID-19, then we will issue a refund with a documentation of a positive test result. Masks must be worn at all times, except when eating or drinking. The facilitators and volunteers will practice social distancing. Due to the nature of the pandemic, the Love & Unity Project may have to cancel the course; We will offer refunds if the event is cancelled due to COVID-19. You also will have the option to donate the money to the Love & Unity Project or transfer your reservation to our next facilitated learning experience. I’m in! What’s next? Mrs. Taylor earned a BS in AYA Education – Integrated Language Arts from the University of Dayton and an MA in the Teaching of Writing from Miami University.
