Description

The Annual Sportsmanship dinner will take place on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Halls of St. George in Schererville. Details are below. During the past 67 years, the Committee has promoted sportsmanship and awarded over $290,000.00 in scholarships to deserving high school athletes. This annual dinner, held at the start of the Indiana High School Basketball Sectional Tournament, has attained status as the premiere athletic social event for the players and patrons of the Calumet Region. This year’s event marks our 68th consecutive dinner and again promises to be special. Buoyed by the success of our last seven in-person dinners, the Committee will continue hosting our gathering at The Halls of St. George in Schererville. The dinner is scheduled for Monday, February 21, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. This year’s keynote speaker is Gary Roosevelt High School and Drake University basketball legend Dolph Pulliam. An All-State basketball player at Roosevelt, Dolph went on to Drake where he led the Bulldogs to a third place finish in the 1969 NCAA Tournament. Thereafter, he was drafted by the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of continuing his athletic career at the professional level, he became Iowa's first African American sportscaster. Ultimately, he would return to Drake as school's Director of Athletic Marketing & Promotions and then Director of Community Outreach and Development, before retiring in 2013. The cost of a single sponsorship this year will be $75.00 and represents our first price increase in over two decades. The new price will cover our increased meal costs as well as allow us to escalate our scholarship awards. Sponsorship provides advertising in the program, a terrific meal, camaraderie, and the opportunity to hear Dolph’s message to today’s athletes. Extra guest tickets are also $75.00, the same as before. Corporate Sponsorships are available, as well. We expect a large crowd so we advise you to commit early, here on EventBrite. Sportsmanship and scholarships are our goal. The patronage of successful businessmen, like you, helps these athletes to become better prepared for the future. The success of our dinner and the scholarships are the result of your patronage. The Committee thanks you. Sincerely, John J. Doherty, Chairman
