Description
Join Master Gardener Volunteer Howard Kirk to help remove invasive plants in parks around Leon County. Bring a bucket and pruners if you have them. Wear long pants and shoes that can get dirty. Some supplies will be available to borrow. We will be focusing on removing coral ardisia at most of the sites. This involves picking fruit and disposing of them in double bagged trash bags. Coral ardisia has a 98% germination rate in Florida so it's important to remove next year's plants before they fall and sprout. We are working at sites that will follow our removals with herbicide applications to kill off mature plants. The herbicide does not work on fruit so this hands on removal is vital to help reclaim space and resources for native plants and wildlife.
