HUDSON VALLEY, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help out through the holidays and help others. Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need. Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering from home. Today's opportunity is for the Sharing Shelf. Organizers said underwear is a basic necessity, yet for many kids in Westchester, it is a luxury that their families struggle to provide. For more than 60,000 children in the county living in low-income homes, new underwear is often financially out of reach. Volunteers are needed to provide these clothing essentials to some of the 3,000 children and teens Sharing Shelf serves every year.
