Description

We are looking for a new home for our Cesar. It breaks our heart but Cesar doesn’t get along with our other dog Max and he will not work for our future family plan. Cesar’s Story Cesar was a street dog in a US military base in Baghdad, Iraq. My brother worked with the US military and met him at the base in the peak heat of summer, 2019. He ended up finding Cesar as a 6 to 10 week old puppy, struggling to survive by himself in a scrapyard at camp Taji, an American base located outside of Baghdad. He bonded with Cesar instantly and we knew we had to get him to the US somehow! We partnered with the non-profit organization called War Paws, who helps rescue animals from untenable living situations in war torn countries and re-homes them, giving them a chance at a better life. War Paws helped us navigate the logistics of importing an animal to the United States including shots, vaccines, and a month-long required quarantine. And Cesar finally got his pass to the United States approved and he landed in Seattle on Christmas morning, 2019! He was roughly 4-5 months old upon arrival. Cesar is about two-year old now and has been professionally trained. Prior to training, he did bite my husband twice due to food insecurity & resource guarding, but the training has helped to establish a framework of rules that can make him successful. His issues of resource guarding does still come up from time to time but is manageable due to the training we sought. Cesar is also fearful around strangers in the house and will show that fear to start until he gets to know people. Cesar will be best served in a home with no kids. Other dogs may work depending on their temperament. We do have a submissive dog and Cesar always wants to play with him. He loves to play but our other dog is older and not interested in Cesar. Cesar has a ton of personality! He likes to smile (show his teeth) at people he loves once they come home, we always get excited to come home to see Cesar’s smile. It’s cute and funny! If you are looking for a protective or independent dog, Cesar would be great. As a result of the intensive 1 on 1 training, he is very well trained with commands and responds to both a prong collar and e-collar with ease. The most common commands we use with him are ‘place’, ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘ok’, ‘kennel’ and ‘down’. The commands are used to help any owner control Cesar and his environment, which is for his betterment. He’s also kennel trained and sleeps in the kennel nightly. We are willing to get you a few sessions on us with the trainer to learn how to work with him and his e-collar. This would be valuable for a new owner. He’s super smart and loves to be trained, even if for a carrot!
