Press release from the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office: Dec 17, 2021 A Shreveport man was found guilty of a felony firearms charge Thursday, December 16, 2021, in Caddo District Court. The eight-woman, four-man jury in District Judge Chris Victory's courtroom found Wilbur D'Andre Byrd, 41, guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon but not guilty of theft of a firearm after deliberating two hours and 10 minutes. The jury, which was empaneled Wednesday, December 15, 2021, heard that police who responded to a complaint October 11, 2021 that Mr. Byrd had taken an acquaintance's handgun from her home had found the Smith and Wesson .40-caliber firearm in Byrd's car. Byrd, who has prior felony convictions for marijuana possession, attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, is not allowed to possess a firearm because he is a convicted felon. When he returns to Judge Victory's courtroom February 10, 2022 for sentencing, Byrd faces a sentence of 5 to 20 years at hard labor without parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, and a fine of from $1,000 to $5,000.
