Here are the top stories today in Des Moines: The Polk County Health Department announced a case of the COVID-19 omicron variant detected in Polk County Friday. Since then, the state announced 18 omicron cases in 7 counties.Polk County Health officials said the first detected case in Polk County occurred in a vaccinated individual over the age of 18. (KCCI Des Moines)Invest DSM is looking to attract people to the Dogtown Bussiness District this winter through a light show they are putting on. Amber Lynch, the executive director of the organization, said this light show is being called Dogtown Chromatic. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)School districts are learning of an anonymous, nationwide threat against schools that is being shared on social media platforms. The general threat toward all U.S. schools declares Friday, Dec. 17, as "American School Shooting Day." The posts warn about the possibility of nationwide shootings or bomb threats associated with this day.
