Description
MONROVIA, CA — Residents directly electing Monrovia's mayor may become a thing of the past, according to a City Council agenda report.
City officials will review the text of a potential ballot measure that would convert the mayor and mayor pro tem positions into an annual rotating choice among the City Council. The council will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting will be streamed online through the Foothills Media website.
"The purpose of this item is to allow the City Council to review and comment on the text of the proposed ballot measure before it comes to the council for a formal decision to put it on the ballot," the agenda report read.
Although it will be weeks before officials will decide whether to approve the ballot measure, the soonest the change could take effect would be 2024.
The position would revert to a City Council seat following the end of the mayor's term, according to the report.
