'No Known Threat' To FUSD: Superintendent

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Unified School District Superintendent CJ Cammack told families Thursday that there was "no known threat to any FUSD schools" following threats of violence around the country. "We are working in collaboration with the Fremont Police Department to monitor any developments, and the School Resource Officers (SROs) assigned to each of our high schools are working closely with us on this matter and are in the process of investigating this further," Cammack wrote in a letter to families posted Thursday on the school district's website. The message came after schools in the Bay Area and around the country prepared for possible violence stemming from a TikTok trend promoting disruptive behavior. Gilroy High School canceled its Friday classes "out of an abundance of caution." As of Friday afternoon, no violence stemming from the challenge has been reported. "This message is sent and our response is undertaken out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with the Fremont Police Department, we don't believe there is any need to adjust the operations at our school sites at this time," Cammack wrote. "As you may know, other recent social media posts have encouraged unsafe, inappropriate, disruptive, and even criminal actions by students. Promoting and engaging in such actions is neither harmless nor an innocent prank. Please take time to talk to your student about these social media challenges and the significant importance of making good choices, and potential consequences for students who engage in inappropriate and/or dangerous conduct."
