Press release from the Fremont Police Department: 12/17/2021 11:40 AM On December 6, 2021, at approximately 3:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 41000 block of Fremont Blvd. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a vehicle.  Officers located an adult male victim suffering major injuries to his legs and body as the result of a suspect ramming his vehicle repeatedly into him.  Fremont Fire Department personnel had already arrived and were providing medical aid to the man.  The victim advised that he was walking to his apartment when he noticed his neighbor driving toward him in the parking lot.  The suspect intentionally struck the victim with his vehicle, which pinned him against a parked vehicle.  The victim said his neighbor reversed his car and struck him repeatedly before fleeing the scene.  The victim stated he  had an on-going dispute with this neighbor, and this was not the first time the neighbor had tried to run him over. The victim was transported to a regional trauma center with serious but non-life- threatening injuries.  Officers located surveillance video of the incident, which showed the suspect striking the victim with his vehicle, reversing, and striking the victim repeatedly for a total of six (6) times.  Homicide detectives took over the investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.  On December 8, 2021, Detectives contacted Roseville PD and requested they check an address for the suspect vehicle.  Roseville PD located the suspect vehicle and towed it to Roseville PD, where Fremont PD Crime Scene Investigators inspected the vehicle for evidence. On December 9, 2021, homicide detectives learned of a possible location for the suspect and contacted the Sacramento PD for assistance.  A surveillance team from Sacramento PD was able to locate and arrest the suspect in the City of Mather.  45-year-old Aqweel Khan of Fremont was arrested on charges of attempt homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.  Khan was transported to Fremont where he was interviewed. Detectives noticed  Khan's appearance was similar to a police sketch made of an unknown suspect in an unprovoked battery investigation from an August 26, 2021, at Central  Park in Fremont.  During that incident, a suspect yelled and cursed at a female victim, "you're not supposed to talk to your brother like that," in English and Hindi.  The suspect then punched the female victim in the face multiple times and threw her phone into the lake.  Detectives had been investigating the incident as a felony battery while also exploring the possibility of a hate crime charge.  Detectives questioned Khan regarding the Central Park battery and obtained a full confession. On December 13, 2021, both investigations were presented to the District Attorney's office who filed the following charges: Khan is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail.
