Press release from the University of Alaska Anchorage: December 17, 2021 Dear UAA Community, Earlier this week, Gov. Dunleavy announced a modest funding increase for the university, and today we've received more good news from the governor's office. The College of Health will receive $2.1 million from the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund to increase the school's capacity to train registered nurses. UAA plays a critically important role in educating health and behavioral health professionals for Alaska. This investment in recruitment and retention packages provides a mechanism to attract and retain qualified faculty in these essential fields in Alaska now and the future. Kendra Sticka, UAA's associate dean of clinical health sciences, says building a sufficient and stable faculty is essential in tackling the state's shortage of nurses, and in developing innovative instructional strategies and providing consistent quality education.
