difference between a tech and mechanic?

Hey y’all, so basic story I’m 23 and a semi truck driver but I always had a feeling to learn new trades as I grow in life, not to switch careers but to learn as a Jack of all trades type of guy, and I’ve had a fascination of doing things on your own. Before I pick up bring a mechanic or technician trade with conventional vehicles/ engines I wanted to know the difference between both, and what’s a good way to start either. Thanks in advance.
