Description

Hello people of Earth. I'm an experienced drummer who is dripping with enthusiasm to play some music. I have to. It's like a breath I haven't taken in too long. I'm looking for other experienced players who know how to explore their instrument. Let's create some colors. Ideals: A creative project where we can create from our hearts and work to be conduits for musical magic. It would be amazing to find other players who feel COMPELLED to create music, and let it flow. Fellow experienced musicians who are also fellow Explorers of sound. Instrumental music is a fantastic place to start. Standing in a room with our instruments and saying, "I don't know" is a great place to start. Cause then we can go anywhere. I love music that carries elements of improvisation. From a structured tune with a jam section that can be manipulated in many ways to full on melodic frames where otherwise the whole tune is an exploration. I want to tap into that Magic. And we won't know until we try. Let's work to make it cohesive. Let's lock in to some grooves so we can feel it in our bones. I'm open to various influences and genres. From acoustic-guitar-led chill stuff to heavy rock to jazz fusion, to full on funk explosion. I love dance music. Down the road I would love to play gigs around town. My experience: Funk, rock, jam, heavily inspired by afrobeat (though I would never call myself an afrobeat drummer), heavily inspired by hip hop music fatness, chill simplistic songwriter stuff, some jazz (though I would never call myself a jazz drummer). I'm more or less self taught and have been playing actively in bands for well over 14 years. I'm an avid concert-goer as well. My most recent project was a 10-piece "funk" band I played in for 8 years in Sacramento where we did everything from original instrumental music to vocal music as well as a huge rotating list of covers. Mostly funk/soul. Funk is where my heart is at, but I'm totally up for expanding beyond my funk fixation, in fact, I sort of crave it. We recorded 3 studio albums and have a lot of material on archive dot org. We did a couple little tours, did the business side, yada yada. I would love to get into electronic/live band fusion if that is a shape this could take. I love glitch hop, psytrance, big beat bassy stuff, and always, Funk. Influences that will help you understand where I'm coming from: **Lettuce**, Grateful Dead, Fela Kuti, A Tribe Called Quest, The Mermen, Tower of Power, Dumpstaphunk, The Meters, String Cheese Incident, Phish, Modest Mouse, Do Make Say Think, Explosions in the Sky, Orgone, local band called Albino!/Strike Iron, Break Science, Greyboy Allstars, Medeski Martin & Wood, Snarky Puppy, Ghost-Note, Railroad Earth, Simon & Garfunkel, STS9, Talking Heads, Zero, Steve Kimock and his iterations. Let's take a chance. We only live once, as far as we know. What's the worst that could happen? An awkward jam sesh? Let's create some energy y'all. <3 -Joe
