Electrician Helper Trainee

Jobs

Pikesville MD

Description

We are an EOE employer, seeking a committed person of any gender/race/creed to train to become a Residential Service Technician. This position is open to college graduates as well as those currently in apprenticeship school, but no experience is necessary for the right candidate; we are looking for a good trainable person to become a well-versed residential service electrician. The starting wage during the initial training period is $13.00 per hour, more for people with education, related experience or maturity. A dedicated candidate will see rapid increased in wages, as we are looking to train and retain good people.. While the successful candidate must be healthy, most of our tasks do not require great physical strength, but rather specialized skills that are developed through training and practice. We are seeking people who can commit to providing great customer service while learning the technical aspects of our craft. This position requires both field work and a minimum of paper work as our duties dictate. Good oral communication, writing skills and basic math ability are important. Mechanical aptitude/experience would certainly be an asset. We value high-quality craftsmanship. Our typical day consists of diagnosing and repairing electrical problems and installing lights, outlets, wiring and other electrical equipment. The Technician-trainee will be challenged every day as she develops troubleshooting and other problem-solving skills by working side-by-side with a Master Electrician. Since our work environment varies greatly, the trainee will learn to use a diverse set of tools and techniques to apply to the situation at hand (some of the houses we work in are as old as 185 years, most are 20-100 years old). As the majority of our work takes place in our customer's homes, attention to detail, patience, and sometimes delicacy is required as we carry out our tasks while treating our clients and their possessions with respect. This is a hands-on position and while we strive to keep our customer's houses clean as we work, we certainly get our hands dirty and deal with the dust and dirt that is usually found within walls, basements and attics. Occasionally we are required to work in tight spaces or outdoors no matter the time of year. We rarely work outside during rain. Step-Ladders are used daily; the height of typical ladders is 4-6 feet, but occasionally ladders are employed that extend to the top of a two-story house. Training is provided to allow the trainee to acclimate to heights. Initial and intermediate training is provided on-the-job by a Master Electrician who has over 25 years of experience. Further training is available through specialized classes, seminars and apprenticeship schools. Please respond via email. Cover letters and resumes are encouraged.
