Experience rest, renewal and release - join us for the opening of our Shmita Exhibit and learn about this incredible Biblical concept!
What would you do with a year of rest, release, renewal?
Join us at the Marin JCC to celebrate the opening of our Shmita exhibit in collaboration with Hazon's Shmita Prize and learn from environmental educator Naama Sadan, PhD candidate at Hebrew University, about this incredible concept and how it is practiced in Israel and diaspora.
This year in the Jewish calendar is a shmita or sabbatical year. Hazon's Shmita Project seeks to expand awareness about the biblical Sabbatical tradition, and to elevate the role that shmita, the year of rest in a seven-year cycle of Jewish life, plays in today’s society. Shmita asks us to examine our relationships with land, food, debt, work/rest, equity and more. The works on display in our Shmita exhibit were curated from submissions to the Shmita Prize to challenge the audience to consider the relevancy and application of shmita values in our contemporary world. We hope that by engaging with these works, the viewer will consider how to prepare for, mark and engage with the shmita year.
