POSITION SCOPE: This Full-time, exempt supervisory position in our Grounds department has overall responsibility for the groundskeeping team and vegetation on the 260 acres of the fairgrounds. The supervisor directs the planting, pruning and cultivating of trees, shrubs, flowers and the seeding, fertilizing, mowing and trimming of all grounds. We are looking for an experienced supervisor who can manage our expansive grounds and develop our team. Candidates must be bilingual—fluent in English and Spanish. YOU WILL: • Direct work of staff on maintenance and improvement of grounds and vegetation • Plan, organize and oversee the beautification, cleanliness and maintenance of landscaped areas and grounds • Prepare, develop and implement grounds maintenance schedules of mowing, planting, watering and fertilizing of landscaped areas • Assists in the development and management of annual Grounds operating and capital projects budgeting • Coach, train, develop and evaluate staff • Conduct safety meetings and proper usage training on all equipment, chemicals and materials • Adhere to and enforce safety standards • Ensure proper use of methods, materials and equipment used in planting, cultivating and trimming of vegetation • Turf management and irrigation • Assure the timely and proper cleaning and preventive maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment and hand and power tools YOUR KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Excellent communications skills—written and verbal • Fluent in English and Spanish • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience • Minimum of 5 years groundskeeping experience • Experience in the methods, materials and equipment used in planting, cultivating and trimming vegetation • Ability to safely use grounds maintenance equipment and hand and power tools need to maintain grounds • Understanding of elements of landscaping and irrigation system design • Proven knowledge of varieties of trees, shrubs, plants, groundcover and grasses and their care • Experience with proper use, control, storage and disposal of pesticides, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and similar chemicals • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the use, storage, control and disposal of chemicals related to lawns, trees, shrubs and landscaping • Excellent people skills • A Class B License or ability to obtain one • Must have and maintain a valid California Driving License • Driving record must qualify and remain qualified to be covered on our insurance Alameda County Fair Association is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages all qualified persons to apply.
