WALTHAM, MA — Waltham's positive coronavirus test rate is continuing to rise, according to the latest municipal-level data released by the Department of Public Health Thursday. This week, the City of Waltham reported a two-week case count of 354 and a positive test rate of 1.7 percent, which is still lower than the statewide rate of 4.97 percent. Also over the past week, Waltham was adding 38.1 new cases per day per 100,000 people. That's higher than the 31.1 cases per 100,000 measured on Dec. 9. On Thursday afternoon, the state Department of Public Health reported 5,883 new coronavirus cases statewide and 30 new deaths. Over 70 percent of Massachusetts communities reported rising positive test rates over the last two weeks. The latest vaccine report shows the number of residents who are fully vaccinated has risen to 5.03 million. Just over 69 percent are fully vaccinated in Waltham, and over 77 percent are partially vaccinated. The state releases town-by-town testing data every Thursday, including the number of people tested, the testing rate, the positive test rate, cases and infection rates.
