Born in Boonsboro, Maryland on March 13th, 1937, Douglas Garns Bast was an exceptional person, and a prominent collector of rare antiquities. Commonly called Doug - or Dougie if you knew him well enough - Doug was something of a local legend. On Friday, January 14th, join us in welcoming Steve for an exploration into the life, collection, and legacy of Doug Bast, who passed away in March 2021 after a battle with Parkinson’s. The featured cocktail will be: The Irish Coffee! Containing hot coffee, Irish whiskey, maple syrup, and whipped cream, this is the perfect winter cocktail! Culture & Cocktails 2022 has been made possible by the generous support of the James and Mary Schurz Foundation. Founded in 1911, the Washington County Historical Society has played a significant role in preserving historic sites, artifacts and archival records for Washington County, Maryland. Located in downtown Hagerstown, the Miller House serves as the home of the historical society, the kinship Family Heritage Research Center, and the Miller House Museum. The museum gives visitors a taste of life in the 1850s and exhibits showcase important events in Washington County history.
