Press release from Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce: 2021-12-16 With every accomplishment comes a new goal! Advance your skills or explore new paths in the new year. This January, take an art class and get inspired. Education Mixer Saturday, January 8 • Join us for a morning of fellowship and fine points! Whether you've been an Alliance Instructor for years or are interested in teaching your first class, we'd love to have you stop by and spend a bit of time meeting new staff and getting to know other instructors. We'll share the ins and outs of teaching at the Alliance, meet some new faces and see some familiar ones while enjoying light refreshments. While this event is free, an RSVP is required. Fine Art Acrylics (Ages 18+) Mondays, January 3 – 31 • Each class begins and ends with a group critique session. In-between group sessions, students work at their own stations and pace. Inspiration comes through sharing ideas, the stimulating feedback and challenging assignments. Collage and Mixed Media (Ages 16+) Mondays, January 3 – 24 • In this four week course, students will be exposed to various mixed media techniques with an emphasis on collage. This will be a fun and experimental class for anyone who wants to try but doesn't know how to go about it. It will also have relevance for the seasoned artist who wants to try something different. Fine Art Acrylics Plein Air Painting – Outside Class Wednesdays, January 5 – February 2 • This outdoor, in-person plein air abstract landscape painting class invites nature to be your guide. Learn to use landscapes or seascapes as the basis for an abstract painting. Your paintings won't be realistic but will still be identifiable, as opposed to typical abstract art where the subject matter is removed. Exploring Alcohol Inks (Ages 18+) Wednesdays, January 5 – 26 • Alcohol inks are bold and beautiful and create artwork that cannot be duplicated. No two pieces are ever alike making this medium distinct and unconventional. During this four week course you will learn various techniques, how to use different tools, and ways to manipulate these vibrant Inks. You will complete works of art and how to finish them for display or use. Early Morning Tai Chi – Outdoor Class Thursdays, January 6 – 27 • Tai Chi exercise is appropriate for all ages and any skill level. Learn to move smoothly and efficiently with grace, suppleness, balance and good posture. Learn to relax your body and open your energy pathways. Gently build your strength, flexibility and mental clarity. Boost your immune system. Practicing Tai Chi is a gift to yourself that will help you improve overall, your mind, body and spirit. No experience necessary. Intro to SoulCollage Friday, January 7 • SoulCollage® is a contemplative and insightful process of self-discovery. It gently opens you to a new way of exploring your inner wisdom. It is a practice by which you can communicate with the unique aspects of yourself while you deepen connections with self and others – all while engaging your creativity! Using simple tools – scissors, glue, magazine images, and mat board – you create cards that are uniquely yours. This process honors your own time, pace, inner-language and spirituality. Bob Ross Classic: "Cool Waters" – Painting Workshop (Ages 13+) Workshop, January 8 • All supplies for this workshop are provided! Come enjoy the Bob Ross philosophy of, "there are no mistakes, just happy accidents." Discovering the Labyrinth Workshop, January 9 • The past few years have presented us with challenges and obstacles as well as gifts and surprises! As we enter this new year, we are reminded of how important it is for us to take care of ourselves and remain grounded in gratitude. This workshop will clarify for you the meaning of a Labyrinth, take a look at different examples of Labyrinths, and invite you to engage in a reflective experiences using a hand held Labyrinth as well as a walking Labyrinth. Workshop (Ages 16+) • Thursdays, February 24 – March 24 • Oil Painting for Beginners (Ages 16+) • Saturday, February 26 • Realistic Seasonal Watercolor Landscapes (Ages 13+) 36th Annual All Florida Exhibition Deadline is Monday, January 24 • This annual show is the most anticipated of the year. As the name suggests, this exhibition features pieces created by artists working in a wide variety of media from all over the 65,000 square miles that make up Florida. The juried entries come together for an award-winning and exciting exhibition representing today's contemporary Florida artists. States of Being Exhibition In the Gallery January 7 – 29 • Carol Coates work conveys feeling states and is centered on issues of perception and choice. Her abstract pieces are visual tone poems. She uses Surreal, Classical, Minimal, and Abstract imagery to communicate. While the work varies in style, the content and aesthetics are constant. It can be poetic and dead serious or quirky and laced with humor. It is all from one heart and one mind. She hopes to evoke an emotional and empathic response from the viewer. Finally, she hopes to provoke thought and promote greater wisdom and justice. Alice Kiderman creates work that is a blend of the realistic and the abstract in shape, though she believes that the abstract is just an extension of the world around us. It her hope that her sculpture evolves emotions and projects the victory of the spirit… untamed. See how the work of these two artists work together to explore what it is to be human, a state of being we all share. Opening Reception: Friday January 7 from 5-7 p.m. See it first. See it free.
