WEST HAVEN, CT — As the coronavirus pandemic continues in the United States, many people have turned to online services for grocery pickup and delivery, including in West Haven. Instacart, a grocery delivery service, released some year-end statistics showing what people across the United States ordered in 2021. Nearly half of all Americans reported they had groceries delivered to their house during the pandemic, a survey by the company said. This year, West Haven ordered Italian sausage, frozen dough, plantains, American cheese, and canned tuna the most. West Haven's grocery delivery preferences are most similar to those in Springfield, MA.. The preferred ice cream flavors in West Haven were cookie dough, strawberry, cookies and cream, mint chip, and cherry. Nationwide, the most popular ice cream flavors were cookies and cream, cookie dough, strawberry, mint chip, and chocolate peanut butter, Instacart said. Also, West Haven ordered enough bananas to create a stack as high as 70 Statues of Liberty. Across the U.S., there was an increase in orders for gemelli pasta, cereal bars, and prepared sandwiches and wraps. Orders declined for pork center roasts, wax-covered cheese, and yeast.
