Danvers Electric 'Customer Charge' Up For Discussion Tuesday

DANVERS, MA — The Danvers Electric "Customer Charge" that was implemented in March to offset reduced revenue from more people using renewable energy sources will be up for debate at the next Danvers Municipal Light Board meeting on Tuesday. The meeting, which will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the Burroughs Sreet Conference, will include a discussion on the updated rates going into 2022 and the $7.50 "Customer Charge" put in place nine months ago. Officials said the "Customer Charge" has become standard in the industry as a way to offset fixed infrastructure costs while demand lessens as more people use renewable energy sources. "This charge is a fixed rate that does not fluctuate with usage but is subject to periodic review and adjustment by the MLB," officials said. "The ongoing use and rate of this customer charge will be discussed." This will be an in=person meeting. A remote viewing and participation option was not made available as part of the agenda.
