BROOKLINE, MA — In response to a TikTok challenge encouraging students to threaten gun violence in schools at all levels, the Public Schools of Brookline sent an email Friday to alert families of the situation. The trend, which Andover Superintendent Magda Parvey said originated in Texas and has been trading on the social media platform, reportedly encourages students to threaten gun violence at their schools on Friday, Dec. 17. "The Public Schools of Brookline are aware of the nationwide Tik-Tok challenge regarding threats of school violence on Friday, December 17th," said the email. "We handle all rumored threats with utmost seriousness and are currently working with the Brookline Police Department to monitor this situation" "At this time, there are no threats specific to any schools at PSB," it continues. "We will communicate with you and the Brookline community through this channel should things change. Thank you for your continued partnership and support." Some districts, including Danvers and Andover, went as far as increasing police presence at local schools in response to the threat.
