That's according to Chris Crosswhite from the Rescue Mission Salt Lake, who joined Good Things Utah to discuss the program and the success it's in getting folks off the streets. There are no easy tricks to the steps, but they include things like getting a job and securing permanent housing. (ABC 4) Vague school threats on social media have school officials cautious and alert, enlisting the assistance of parents to help monitor their student's social media and keep school communities safe. Ben Horsley with the Granite School District, which has monitored a few of these vague threats directed toward Granger High School, said these threats "came from out of state but the posts are being recycled and passed around several of our schools." (KUTV 2News) Bike theft in Salt Lake is on the rise, along with the value of stolen bikes as new bikes fly off shelves and stock is low amid pandemic-induced shortages. The problem is made worse with low proactive enforcement of reported theft while law enforcement has prioritized the allocation of resources to violent and other crimes. What was considered before a simple crime of opportunity has now evolved into an often organized criminal enterprise as the recovery of stolen bikes is rare and demand extremely high. (Salt Lake Tribune) After 18 years at its current location on Broadway's "antique row," City Creek Antiques Store owner Carmen von Bothmer will close her brick and mortar for good, citing small business concerns, aggressive parking ticketing of customers, and several incidents of burglary.
