Facing COVID Spike, Princeton University Mandates Booster Shots

PRINCETON, NJ — A few days after reporting a spike in COVID-19 cases among undergraduate students, Princeton University has now mandated booster shots for all eligible students and staff. The University made the announcement on Thursday, as it prepares for the spring semester. "All faculty, researchers, staff and students will be required to receive a booster shot by Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 or 30 days after they become eligible," the University said. The institution recommended appointments be made at the University vaccine clinics or nearby pharmacies. Princeton University recently announced it was moving final exams to remote format and asked the community to cancel or postpone all indoor gatherings after an uptick in cases among undergraduates including "suspected cases of the highly contagious Omicron variant." The University's current policies require students, faculty, and staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but allows religious and medical exemption. Ninety-nine percent of undergraduates, 98 percent graduate students, and 96 percent faculty and staff are vaccinated, according to the University dashboard. Thank you for reading.
