Extra Police Planned At Point Beach Schools Amid Tik Tok Threat

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Point Pleasant Beach schools will have an increased police presence inside the buildings and outside on Friday in response to a nationwide Tik Tok challenge that suggested violence against schools, officials said. Superintendent William Smith, in a video message to the school community, said the district had been notified of "a generalized national threat to schools." "The Tik Tok references a generalized threat to all schools in the country for tomorrow," Smith said, adding the district spoke with Point Pleasant Beach police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office about the threat. State law enforcement authorities have determined that no New Jersey schools were specifically targeted with threats, he said. "There is no credibility to the threats," Smith said. "Should you read or hear about this, know the school is aware of it and our police department is as well." Schools throughout New Jersey were issuing similar statements and bolstering their law enforcement presence to reassure students, staff and parents on Friday.
