Ransomware Attack Affected Prince George's County: Officials

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George's County government has been working to address issues after it learned that its timekeeping vendor Kronos was the subject of a national ransomware attack that has affected governments and companies across the country. "The Prince George's County Office of Information Technology, Office of Human Resources Management, Office of Finance, Office of Law and County government leadership have been working diligently to understand the scope of this ransomware attack, and how it affects our government," County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said. "We will continue to seek answers from the vendor and put in place temporary procedures while Kronos works through this matter." While this ransomware attack does not impact the government's payroll system, it does impact the government's timekeeping function and county officials are working diligently to ensure that government employees continue to be paid on time. "We are working with leading cyber security experts to assess and resolve the situation, and have notified the authorities," Bob Hughes, executive vice president for UKG, wrote in a post on the company's website. "The investigation remains ongoing, as we work to determine the nature and scope of the incident."
