Early Voting For District 8 Special Primary Election Starts Soon

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A special primary election has been scheduled for Jan. 4 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to fill the vacancy in District 8 left by the resignation of Council Member Monique Anderson-Walker. She was the first African American woman to be elected to Prince George's County's District 8. District 8 includes the constituent areas of Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, Clinton, Forest Heights, Fort Washington, Glass Manor, Marlow Heights, Oxon Hill and Temple Hills. Anderson-Walker announced her resignation from her position in November so she could devote all her time to the gubernatorial campaign. She is running with Peter Franchot for the office of lieutenant governor. Special primary election early voting will be carried out Dec. 27-Dec. 30 and Jan. 2-3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the exception of Jan. 2, which will be from noon to 6 p.m. The special general election will be Feb. 1 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Special general election early voting will be held Jan. 26-31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day with the exception of Jan. 30, which will be from noon to 6 p.m. Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks also seeks community applicants for the vacant board of education District 8 position after the resignation of board of education member Edward Burroughs, whose resignation took effect Dec. 6. Alsobrooks plans to appoint a replacement by early January. The person selected by Alsobrooks will serve out the remainder of Burroughs' current term, which runs until December 2024.
