COLORADO — Coloradans who've received their booster are 47 times less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than unvaccinated people, state public health data shows. As of Thursday, 1,212 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Colorado, and 35 percent of hospitals in our state anticipate ICU bed shortages over the next week, according to data posted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, 1,576 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in our state. Five cases of the omicron variant have been detected in Colorado. More than 4 million Coloradans have received at least one vaccine dose, the latest data shows. Around 81 percent of Coloradans 12 and older and 25 percent of 5-11 year olds have received their first dose, public health officials said. "It's a dangerous time to be unvaccinated so please check out fact-based and scientific information today if you're still on the fence and get vaccinated and boosted," Gov. Jared Polis said during a news conference Thursday. "Our administration is committed to partnering with local governments to stand up drive-thru sites like the Aurora Municipal Center and large-scale vaccination sites which have the capacity to serve thousands of Coloradans.
