MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County, like much of New Jersey, is seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. The County has reported a 21 percent increase in COVID-19 cases this week. On Friday, the County reported 189 COVID cases and one death. Mercer County has "high" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses. "I believe it's a combination of winter months (more people spending more time indoors), increasing indoor gatherings/activities, and waning immunity from the initial series of vaccination," said Jeff Grosser, Princeton Health Officer. Officials warn of another holiday-related spike in January. Meanwhile, officials continue the local push to get more shots into arms. A study conducted by Pzifer found that their booster dose had similar levels of antibodies as the initial two-shot regiment shown to work against the prior strain of the virus. As a result, Gov. Phil Murphy and New Jersey Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli continue to urge residents to get vaccinated and get their boosters.
