SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said there were no credible threats to local schools amid a nationwide social media trend that threatened violence at schools Friday. The trend originated on video-sharing app TikTok, which is particularly popular among youth. An image containing an anonymous, vague threat of gun violence was widely circulated. Various iterations of the post have apparently been shared and some officials say the post was intended as a way to skip school. The sheriff's office said no locally specific threats were identified and anyone with information about such threats should contact law enforcement so they can be investigated. Officials encouraged parents to keep an eye on students' social media accounts.
