WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs last week released a video and information about a house burglary. It paid off. On Friday, the police department announced it arrested a man and a woman in connection with the burglary in the 400 block of Western Avenue. A video showed a 2010 gray Mazda 5 minivan nearby. It was believed to have been involved in the break-in. About 4 p.m. Wednesday, a resident saw the minivan in the 1400 block of Maple Street, about three blocks away from the Western Avenue house. "Thanks to a tip from a resident who observed last week's post, 911 was contacted, officers responded, and were able to confirm this to be the same vehicle from the December 7 burglary," the department said in a Facebook post. Items from other burglaries were in the minivan, along with burglary tools, police said. In the middle of the day Dec. 7, suspects entered by force through a side door at the Western Avenue house, police said. Multiple items of jewelry were reported stolen. Police did not release the suspects' names. In an email to Patch, Deputy Police Chief Daniel Albrecht said the case is being investigated, with evidence submitted to a crime lab to link the suspect to recent burglaries. Police arrested the man because he had outstanding warrants and was a person of interest in a burglary in DuPage County, Albrecht said. The woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance, he said.
