PETALUMA, CA — Recently, new DNA evidence was discovered in some of the evidence collected during the initial missing person investigation of Janie June Coe, according to the Petaluma Police Department. "This has led to new witness contacts and investigative leads as detectives continue to follow-up on this active investigation," Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said Thursday. Coe was last seen on April 29, 1997, when she returned to her eastside Petaluma home after a job interview. When Coe did not pick up her children from a family member on May 2, 1997, she was reported as a missing person to the Petaluma Police Department. Since her disappearance, neither her children, other family members nor friends have heard from her. According to police, the initial investigation revealed Coe's ATM card was used by an unidentified woman April 29, 1997, at West America Bank in Petaluma. Surveillance footage from the bank showed the unidentified woman was driving a 1978-1982 Ford Mustang. Because of the poor quality of the footage, investigators could not make out the car's license plate number. Coe's 1989 Ford Aerostar van was found abandoned May 5, 1997, near an open field in Napa. Earlier this week, the Petaluma Police Department announced new DNA evidence was recently found in the case. On Thursday, police released an age-progressed image of Coe, who was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 130 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. (Petaluma Police Department) A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund for information pertaining to Coe's disappearance. "Today, Janie would have been 63 years of age," Lyons said. "If anyone has any new information about this case, they are encouraged to contact Detective Corie Joerger at 707-778-4456."
